AVRITAH IS AN INTERSECTIONAL PLATFORM FOR ACTION DEDICATED TO DISMANTLING SYSTEMS OF HEALTH + ENVIRONMENTAL INEQUITY.
Our mission is to equip each and every person to take action towards systems of health equity + environmental justice through action-focused projects and our community platform.
ACTIVATIONS
Our Activations serve as a framework for action.
Through intersectional* action in Research, Education, Advocacy, and Personal Action, we believe we can REAP systemic change to create intersectional systems of healthcare and address environmental injustice from the lens of its impact on health.
Research
We know research as a foundation for world-changing work which allows us to uncover leverage points for systemic change.
Education
We are developing invigorating educational materials that empower action towards healthier systems for human + environmental health.
Advocacy
We propose and support legislation that works for communities most impacted by issues of environmental injustice + health inequities.
Personal Action
We believe that responsible action is a team effort. We want to come into community with folks looking to make effectual change.
We believe that our action must center the voices and experiences of members of the marginalized communities most affected by these issues, while holding space for people of all backgrounds to get involved in the action-taking that making systems-wide changes will need.
*We acknowledge and thank Kimberlé Crenshaw for her work to create the term “intersectional feminism” which gave birth to the concept of intersectionality, and we use this term to denote our dedication to using an intersectional lens.
“Intersectionality is a theoretical framework for understanding how aspects of a person's social and political identities combines to create unique modes of discrimination and privilege.”
WE SEEK TO
(1) transform issues of health and environmental equity into calls to action
(2) motivate individual and community action towards creating solutions
(3) identify the important roles we all play in driving systemic change
